​Responsibilities regarding City boards and commissions are split between the City Clerk’s Office and the Mayor’s Office. The City Clerk's Office is responsible for maintaining the rosters of City boards and commissions and an up to date calendar of meetings. The Mayor’s Office is responsible for managing the application and appointment process.

Please note that many meetings have switched from in-person to a remote digital platform due to the pandemic. Please check agendas and meeting notices for the latest information.  

Boards and Commissions application

The Mayor and City Council appoint over 250 members of the community to serve on boards, commissions, and committees. Although the requirement for appointment to each of the dozens of different boards, commissions, or committees can vary significantly, all appointments begin with identifying a vacancy and completing the online application process.

With over 500 meetings scheduled a year, the Boards and Commissions Calendar is the best way to stay informed about when and where public meetings take place.

Meeting ​documents

Overwhelmingly, City boards, commissions, and committees use Legistar for document and meeting management responsibilities. This software allows participating boards, commissions, and committees to post agendas and minutes online.

The City of Ann Arbor utilizes an automatic alert feature allowing members of the public a simple way to keep informed about meetings of boards, commissions, and committees. Alerts inform subscribers when recording secretaries add or update information in the Legistar database and the alert email provides some information about the meeting with a direct link to full meeting details.
