Sign Up to Participate in the Ann Arbor Community Academy

Deadline to register is Friday, Feb. 18

Archived News Release: January 19, 2022 - The Ann Arbor Community Academy (A2CA) is returning for a fifth year to provide a broad view of local government for community members 18 years of age and older. During a series of weekly sessions, from Wednesday, March 2, to Wednesday, April 27, 6:30–8:30 p.m., participants will connect with city staff and officials via Zoom to discover what goes into both long-term planning and day-to-day operations throughout Ann Arbor. The program, formerly named Ann Arbor Citizens Academy, is free to participants.

In addition, for a select few weeks, participants will be able to choose an in-person tour of city facilities, such as a fire station and the Ann Arbor Wastewater Treatment Plant, instead of the scheduled virtual class. Groups for these in-person tours will be limited in size, with signup on a first-come, first-served basis. More information on how to opt into an in-person tour will be provided after signup. Find details, including health and safety information, on the A2CA homepage.

A form for those interested in participating in A2CA is currently online at https://www.a2gov.org/departments/city-clerk/A2CA/Pages/default.aspx. The deadline to submit the sign-up form is Friday, Feb. 18, 2022. Those who submit the form will be contacted with more information about the program and next steps once planning is complete.

City staff hopes participants will be motivated to play a more active role in shaping the future of Ann Arbor after participating in the A2CA. Many graduates from this program have gone on to serve the community by participating in City Council, Municipal Water System Advisory Council, City Planning Commission, Ann Arbor Public Art Commission, or working as an election inspector.

This program is open to all adults. For more information, visit www.a2gov.org/A2CA or contact the A2CA coordinator, Sarah Alanis, at [email protected].
