Celebrate 100 Years with the Ann Arbor Farmers Market in September

Farm-to-Table Dinner, Food Trucks, Magic, Movie & More Coming Soon to the Market!

Archived News Release: August 29, 2019 - ​​The Ann Arbor Farmers Market is 100 years old this year! There are some great events planned for the community all season long. Here's what to look forward to in September:

Wedne​​sday, Sept. 4

  • Market Kids, Come Play! 10 a.m.–1 p.m. — Kids and their adults can come play with the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum and the Leslie Science & Nature Center educators during the Wednesday market on Sept. 4 and Oct. 2. This “Unity in Learning" series will provide an opportunity for market kids to enjoy fun, hands-on discovery and exploration of the natural world.
  • Food Truck Rally 5–8 p.m. — Every first Wednesday of the month (May–October), AAFM hosts over a dozen food trucks serving up delicious, ready-to-eat foods. New this year, Blom Meadery will be serving their dry, sparkling, session meads and ciders made with Michigan ingredients. Enjoy live music by MG Bailey from Chicago.
  • Flicks on Bricks A2 Outdoor Movie Series, dusk — Stay after the Food Truck Rally to enjoy circus performers and watch the new hit, “A Star Is Born," on the big, outdoor movie screen at dusk, thanks to Flicks on Bricks A2 sponsors, Exchange Capital and Cinetopia Film Series.

​Wednesday, Sept​​. 11

  • Market Kids, Come Play! 10 a.m.–1 p.m. — Join the staff of the Univer​sity of Michigan Conceptual Development Lab for a “One Fish, Two Fish, Let's Go Blue Fish!" children's activity.

Saturday, Sept​. 14

  • Market Kids, Come Play! 10 a.m.–1 p.m. — Join us during the Saturday Market for a “Parks & Crafts" event to make a reusable produce bag from an old t-shirt. Bring your own shirt if you can, but we will have materials on hand. Register by emailing [email protected]. Preregistration ensures there are enough crafting materials for everyone. Walk-ins are welcome, too.

Wednesday, Sept​​. 18

  • Market Chef Cooking Demo 11 a.m.–1 p.m. — Chef Kieron Hales of Cornman Farms will be featured during the Wednesday market to perform a cooking demo using seasonal ingredients from market vendors. Meet the chef and learn how to create yummy recipes using local ingredients; tastings included! This event is produced in partnership with Edible Wow.

Friday, S​​​ept. 20

  • The Ann Arbor Farmers Market will host a Farm-to-Table Dinner to celebrate the 100th birthday! Seven local chefs will prepare seasonal dishes using ingredients directly from the farmers to showcase a meal that features the best our community has to offer. Join us under the market pavilion from 6–8 p.m. for an evening of live music, great food and drinks, and a celebration of 100 years of local farms and local food. One-hundred tickets will be sold for $100 each. Tickets can be purchased on the Kerrytown District Association website: http://kerrytown.org/farm-to-tabl​e-dinner. This dinner raises money to support our farmers! Proceeds go into a mini grant fund; and farmers can apply to receive support for their businesses. This dinner is sponsored by the Kerrytown District Association.

Saturday, Aug.​​ 31

Magic at the Market with Alexander the Magician! 10 a.m.–1 p.m. ––  Come experience some magic at the AAFM! Alexander is an award-winning, expert entertainer with over 20 years of experience in challenging the metaphysical for the amusement of others. Showtimes: 10 a.m., 11 a.m., noon.

Then coming up ​​​next month … The last Food Truck Rally of the year is Wednesday, Oct. 2, 5–8 p.m.


The Ann Arbor Farmers Market brings farm-fresh produce to the community every week of the year. The gathering place for more than 130 local businesses, the producer-only market offers native plants, artisanal yogurt, cheese and baked goods, fresh-picked vegetables, slow-roasted coffee beans, fermented sauerkraut and Sriracha, cut flowers, hardwood cutting boards and planters, premier Michigan fruits and nuts, maple syrup and so much more.
