Residents can go Online to Learn About the Ann Arbor Park Millage

Archived News Release: October 30, 2018 - For years, the City of Ann Arbor has devoted a section of its website to explain, track and highlight how funds from the Park Maintenance and Capital Improvements Millage are allocated. In advance of the upcoming renewal of the expiring Park Maintenance and Capital Improvements Millage proposal on the Nov. 6 ballot, the site, www.a2gov.org/parksmillage, has been updated with many more informational resources. Visitors to the site will find millage-funded project status tables; frequently asked questions; and now also facts and videos about the parks and programming. The site serves as a resource for individuals wanting additional information about the millage; and it showcases some of the features and amenities Ann Arbor Parks and Recreation has to offer as well.

The proposed millage renewal is a six-year millage for 1.10 mills that was first approved by residents of the City of Ann Arbor on Nov. 7, 2006. The current millage expires in 2018. The millage renewal covers 2019–2024. It is estimated that, each year, the millage will generate approximately $6,000,000 in revenue.

Between 60 percent and 80 percent of the annual millage funds support city park maintenance activities. Park maintenance activities include natural area preservation, park operations, park equipment repairs, park volunteer programs, forestry and horticulture, and recreation facility maintenance. Between 20 percent and 40 percent of the annual millage funds are designated for city park capital improvements, such as: active parks; historic preservation; neighborhood parks; pathways, trails, boardwalks, game courts; recreation facilities; and park equipment acquisitions.
