Archived News Release: September 10, 2018 - On Sunday, Sept. 23, Natural Area Preservation volunteers at Kuebler Langford Nature Area will join volunteers across the country at their favorite parks, beaches, wildlife preserves and forests to give back to the treasured lands where we play, learn and relax in celebration of the 25th annual National Public Lands Day (NPLD). Anyone interested in participating in this event is welcomed to join.
From 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 23, volunteers at Kuebler Langford Nature Area will enjoy the lush woodland, dramatic ravines and a diverse array of rare plants and wildflowers, while learning how to identify and cut invasive species such as buckthorn and honeysuckle. Doing so will allow native species to thrive and provide natural habitat for wildlife. Volunteers should wear long pants and closed-toe shoes, and will meet at the park entrance on Beechwood Drive, north of Sunset Road. Every participant must present a completed release form, and all minors should be accompanied by a guardian. Tools, snacks and know-how provided.
Coordinated each year by the National Environmental Education Foundation (NEEF), National Public Lands Day brings together volunteers from coast to coast to improve and restore the lands and facilities that Americans use and enjoy every day. Last year, more than 200,000 people participated in NPLD events at more than 2,500 sites in all 50 states plus Washington, D.C.
Seven federal agencies will participate in NPLD along with hundreds of state, county and city partners and a host of nonprofit groups. For the 20th consecutive year, Toyota is the event's national corporate sponsor.
City of Ann Arbor Natural Area Preservation (NAP) works to protect and restore Ann Arbor's natural areas and to foster an environmental ethic among its citizens. This involves conducting plant and animal inventories, ecological monitoring and stewardship projects in Ann Arbor parks. Both staff and volunteers perform these tasks.
