City of Ann Arbor Selects Assistant City Administrator

Archived News Release: August 15, 2018 - The City of Ann Arbor has selected John Fournier as the new assistant city administrator (ACA). He is expected to start with the city on September 4, 2018.

Fournier will come to Ann Arbor after serving as the director of on-street and metered parking for the Pittsburgh Parking Authority since 2016. He also served as the deputy chief of staff for the office of Pittsburgh Mayor William Peduto from 2014-2016, as well as the chief of staff for Pittsburgh City Councilwoman Natalia Rudiak from 2010-2012.

The City of Ann Arbor ACA is a new executive-level position that reports directly to the city administrator. The ACA serves both as the “second in command" and chief of staff for the city administrator's office. While the focus is primarily on the coordination of internal functions, the ACA will be responsible for government relations, will serve in an ombudsperson role to address individual and business concerns and will work with resident groups.

“I look forward to the expertise and leadership John will bring to our community," said Howard Lazarus, city administrator. “In particular, his experience and success serving as a chief of staff in a large metropolitan area will enable him to hit the ground running. I'm confident he will provide a high level of service to Ann Arbor."

A native of southeast Michigan, Fournier earned a bachelor of arts' degree in political theory and constitutional democracy from the James Madison College at Michigan State University as well as a master of public administration degree from Pennsylvania State University.
