City Announces Independent Community Police Commission Nomination Process and Timeline

Archived News Release: January 7, 2019 - ​The City of Ann Arbor is seeking citizens to serve on the newly formed 11-member Independent Community Police Commission, which was formed via Council resolution on Oct. 15, 2018.  ​

How to App​​ly

Interested applicants will complete an application created by the Human Rights Commission by Thursday, Jan. 31, 2019. The online Independent Community Police Oversight Commission Application includes a two-page description of the new commission's mandate and the responsibilities that will be expected of members. Anyone interested in serving on the commission must complete and submit an application by Jan. 31 to [email protected]. Application Review Process

On Feb. 1, commission applicant names will be released to the public via the city's website. No decision on nominations will be made prior to Feb. 15. Community input is encouraged throughout the selection process and should be submitted to [email protected], which will be forwarded to Council members. The Human Rights Commission will meet on Feb. 13 and will finalize their recommendations. A final decision on nominations is due by Feb. 28, which will be presented for Council consideration on March 4. City Council will vote on final nominations at their regular meeting on March 18, which will be web streamed live and available to view later via CTN's YouTub​e channel
