Community Input Sought Regarding West Park Bandshell Project

The public is being asked to participate in a series of community engagement opportunities surrounding the West Park Bandshell project.

In the Spring of 2021, cracks were observed on the exterior of the bandshell foundation. Ann Parks & Recreation staff hired a consultant, Hubbell, Roth and Clark Inc., to perform a structural analysis on the bandshell. The report identified significant structural failures in the foundation. It was determined that the bandshell needed to be closed and fenced off for safety reasons. Preliminary estimates put repair of the structure at over $2 million. Due to the nature of the bandshell and the resources required for repair, it is important to get community involvement and feedback as we move forward. Throughout the fall and winter the community will have many opportunities to weigh-in and provide feedback on the West Park Bandshell project.

Ann Arbor Parks & Recreation staff have two pop-up events at West Park planned. Community members are encouraged to stop by the park (215 Chapin St.) to hear about the project, ask questions and provide feedback. More dates to follow:
* Friday, Sept. 8 and Monday, Sept. 11, 1-3 p.m.

Additionally on Monday, Sept. 11 an informational virtual meeting will be held online, 6:30-8 p.m. The link to the meeting will be available on the project webpage (link below) Monday, Sept. 11.

For all the details about the project go online, https://www.a2gov.org/departments/Parks-Recreation/administrative/Pages/WestParkBandshell.aspx. Additionally, the West Park Bandshell survey (https://survey.alchemer.com/s3/7383781/West-Park-Bandshell-Community-Engagement) is open and will close on Sept 18. We appreciate your feedback and encourage you to take the survey here.
