May 7 Open House at the Ann Arbor Water Treatment Plant

Archived News Release: April 26, 2016 - ​The City of Ann Arbor Water Treatment Plant, located at 919 Sunset Road in Ann Arbor, will hold a free open house on Saturday, May 7, 2016, 11 a.m.–3 p.m. Visitors will have the opportunity to learn, up close, how water is treated and view the field equipment and vehicles used to maintain the city's water pipes. 

In addition to learning about drinking water, two art exhibits will be available for viewing.  All of the submissions to the city's Art in the Sky contest will be on display, along with artwork by Penny W. Stamps School of Art and Design students who have illustrated their interpretation of the theme, "Imagine a Day Without Water." Free water bottles and refreshments will be available. 

The Ann Arbor Water Treatment Plant is actually two separate water plants. The older plant was built in 1938 and 1949 and can process 22 million gallons of water per day (MGD). The newer plant was built in 1966 and 1975 and can process 28 MGD. The plants are upgraded continually to comply with regulations, increase reliability and to improve water quality.
