Archived News Release: January 7, 2016 - The City of Ann Arbor will announce Derek Delacourt as the next City of Ann Arbor community services area administrator following the procedural consent from City Council at the Jan. 19 Council meeting. He is expected to start with the city in late February.
Delacourt will come to Ann Arbor after serving as the director of community and economic development for the City of Ferndale, Michigan, since 2011. While with Ferndale, Delacourt was responsible for planning, economic development, code enforcement and building-related operations. He also served as a planner and as deputy director of planning and economic development for the City of Rochester Hills, as well as intermodal planner with the transportation department of the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments.
The City of Ann Arbor community services area consists of three service units: community development, parks and recreation, planning and development. Delacourt will replace Sumedh Bahl, who retired from the city in November after 25 years of service.
"I look forward to the expertise and leadership Derek can bring to the community services area," said Tom Crawford, interim city administrator. "In particular, his experience and success with implementing community partnerships and overseeing the planning and building operations will be a great benefit to Ann Arbor."
Delacourt is a member of several organizations including American Planning Association, Michigan Association of Planning, Michigan Economic Development Association, Congress for New Urbanism and Urban Land Institute. He earned a bachelor's degree in urban and regional planning from Eastern Michigan University, with a minor in historic preservation. He is currently working toward a master of public administration degree from Oakland University.
