April 16 Meeting Will Discuss Allmendinger and Hunt Parks Renovations

Archived News Release: March 27, 2015 - The public is invited to attend a meeting about upcoming tennis and basketball court renovations at Allmendinger and Hunt parks. The informal informational session will be held Thursday, April 16 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the basement conference room of Larcom City Hall (301 E. Huron St.). (Click here for an enlarged map of the proposed renovations. PDF.) Questions may be directed to Parks Planner Amy Kuras at [email protected] or 734.794.6230 ext. 42590. Descriptions of the two projects are below:

Allmendinger Park:

Tennis and basketball courts at Allmendinger Park are to be rehabilitated this coming spring/summer.

Parks staff has received requests to improve the courts in the past few years. Court improvements are prioritized by the condition, level of use and regional draw of the park.

The tennis court will be replaced in the same location and slightly widened to conform with safety standards. There will be no impact to existing trees for either the basketball or the tennis court work. The basketball court will be moved slightly away from the entry drive and the large tree to the north.  Doing so increases the buffer between cars and park users, as well as causes less impact to the root structure of the tree. As part of this project, the volleyball posts will be removed.

Hunt Park:

Both the tennis and basketball courts will be replaced in the same location. There will be no impact to the existing trees for either the basketball or the tennis courts. The bench at the basketball court will be repaired, but will remain in the same location due to the limited space with the slopes surrounding the court.

The work at both parks is anticipated to take place in June or July pending contractor schedules and weather, and should take approximately one month to complete.
