Apply to Be an A2ZERO Ambassador!

Archived News Release: January 22, 2024 - The City of Ann Arbor Office of Sustainability and Innovations (OSI) is accepting applications for its sixth group of A2ZERO Ambassadors, which will launch in March 2024. The deadline to apply is Wednesday, Feb. 14. The A2ZERO Ambassador Program provides insights, connections, collaboration opportunities and resources for individuals interested in helping the community achieve a just transition to community-wide carbon neutrality by 2030. Up to 25 individuals will be selected to participate. Interested community members can find the application link at a2gov.org/ambassadors.

The 12-week course covers a broad range of topics including:

  • Equity and environmental justice.

  • Community sustainability, climate change and climate action.

  • Renewable energy.

  • Water resources.

  • Transportation.

  • Circular economy.

  • Local food systems.

  • Resilience and emergency preparedness.

  • Carbon neutrality.

Upon course completion, ambassadors will implement an individual outreach project or work with others in their group to implement a sustainability-related project supported by OSI and a community mentor. Avni shares their experiences from participating with an earlier ambassador group: “The main thing that surprised me about going through the program was the diversity, in age and background, of the participants in my cohort. Their differences in perspective provided a richness to the experience that couldn't be achieved on its own. I also found the process of completing an ambassador project extremely rewarding because of the hands-on nature of it. The support we received from OSI staff and our nonprofit partner was crucial to our success. Taking initiative to solve a real issue I saw in my community engendered a sense of ownership over climate change, but also a sense of hope."

The A2ZERO Ambassadors Program is modeled after the seven strategies of the A2ZERO Carbon Neutrality Plan, and more information can be found at a2zero.org.
