Sustainable Design Features
Dunbar Tower advances the community’s initiatives towards sustainability and carbon neutrality. The project has achieved NGBS Green + Net Zero Energy Certification as an all-electric building with design features including rooftop solar panels, a green roof with plantings, thirty (30) spaces of enclosed bicycle parking, an energy efficient building envelope with R-30 roof and R-27.5 walls, and all-electric appliances and HVAC in residential units.
Most notably, the building is heated and cooled through an underground geothermal system with wells extending 600 feet below the ground. Many months were spent with local regulatory bodies to get processes and standards in place, paving the way for other downtown developments to use geothermal.
Four electric vehicle chargers are installed on the ground floor parking area, and the AAHC secured a grant to provide two electric vehicles for a residential car share program. The AAHC worked with the DDA and AAATA on a PILOT program to provide our residents with Get Downtown bus passes that allow them to utilize the local bus system free of charge, further reducing residents’ reliance on cars in the downtown. And the development includes 29 bike parking spaces, 23 of which are indoor.
Units include durable materials such as corian quartz countertops, stainless steel appliances, higher end cabinetry and flooring, tile entryway and bathrooms, and heavy-duty windows, doors and shades.
