Porter’s Place is the Ann Arbor Housing Commission’s newest community space, created to honor the legacy of the historic West Side neighborhood and the generations of Black families, leaders, and cultural institutions that have shaped Ann Arbor. The space is named in honor of Lucille Hall Porter, a beloved community advocate whose decades of service supported neighbors with mentorship, resources, and unwavering care.
Offering intergenerational programming, arts and wellness activities, youth engagement, and partnerships with local organizations, Porter’s Place reflects the creativity, resilience, and cultural richness of the West Side. It is a welcoming space for Ann Arbor residents and neighbors, designed to foster connection, creativity, and community‑led learning.
