Electric Yard Care Rebates

Interested in going electric for your yard care needs, improving health, reducing emissions, and making less noise in the process? Get started today with rebates from the City of Ann Arbor's Office of Sustainability and Innovations! 

The following rebates are available until the date specified or funding is expired:

  • Residential rebates for rakes and electric leaf blowers - Dec. 31, 2025
  • Residential rebates for snow shovels and electric snow blowers - Jan. 31, 2026
  • Business rebates are available for electric leaf blowers - Sept. 30, 2026

There are four steps to apply for a rebate:

  1. Determine if your equipment is eligible for a rebate
  2. Submit an online reservation application 
  3. Provide proof of trade-in of gas powered equipment (leaf blower or snow blower)
  4. Provide proof of purchase of electric or manual equipment 

Obtaining Your Rebate - Residents

Eligibility 

To be eligible for a rebate, the following criteria must be met:

  • You must own or rent a residential property within the City of Ann Arbor. 
  • You must trade in gas equipment of the same type of equipment the rebate is for

Equipment

The following rebates are available:

  • Rakes and electric leaf blowers - available until Dec. 31, 2025 or until funding is expended
    • The rebate amount will be 100% of the cost of a new rake or 50% of the cost of a new electric leaf blower to a maximum of $100.
    • Residents are limited to one rake/electric leaf blower rebate per household.
    • The rebate can be used for any rake or battery-powered/electric leaf blower. The rake or leaf blowers may be purchased at any retailer.
  • Snow shovels and electric snow blowers - available until Jan. 31, 2026 or until funding is expended
    • The rebate amount will be 100% of the cost of a new shovel or 50% of the cost of a new electric snow blower or electric shovel to a maximum of $200.
    • Residents are limited to one shovel/electric snow blower rebate per household.
    • The rebate can be used for any manual shovel, electric shovel, or electric snow blower. The shovel or snow blower may be purchased at any retailer.

Once submitted, the City of Ann Arbor will review the reservation application to verify eligibility and funding availability. The City will then notify applicants of their status via email. Applicants who are approved must provide proof of trade-in of gas-powered equipment and proof of purchase within 21 days of receiving their reservation application approval email.

Gas powered-leaf blowers and snow blowers must be taken to Recycle Ann Arbor’s Drop Off Station. Before taking equipment to Recycle Ann Arbor, remember to drain it of all fluids (gasoline and oil) or it will not be accepted. Recycle Ann Arbor will provide proof of trade-in via a confirmation form. Please remember to request this form at the drop off station. The confirmation form must be submitted via email within 21 days of receiving the reservation application approval email.

Before receiving a rebate, proof of purchase of the applicant’s new equipment must be provided. Proof of purchase must be submitted via email in the form of a receipt within 21 days of receiving a reservation application approval email.

Once these steps are completed, the City of Ann Arbor will provide rebate funds. 

Obtaining Your Rebate - Businesses

Eligibility 

To be eligible for a rebate, the following criteria must be met:

  • Businesses that provide lawn care or landscaping services to properties located in Ann Arbor will be eligible for this rebate.
  • Businesses must trade in gas equipment of equivalent quantity. 

Equipment

The following rebates are available:

  • Electric leaf blowers - available until Sept. 30, 2026 or until funding is expended
    • The rebate amount will be 50% of the cost of the new electric leaf blower to a maximum of $400.
    • Eligible businesses may apply for multiple rebates to a maximum of $5,000 per business.
    • The rebate can be used for any battery-powered/electric leaf blower. Leaf blowers may be purchased at any retailer and may be a part of a battery/charger kit.
      • If leaf blowers are not purchased as a part of a battery/charger kit, the rebate can be used for one charger and two batteries per leaf blower purchased. 

Fill out the rebate reservation application here. Once submitted, the City of Ann Arbor will review the reservation application to verify eligibility and funding availability. The City will then notify applicants of their status via email. Applicants who are approved must provide proof of trade-in of old gas-powered leaf blowers and proof of purchase of new electric leaf blowers within 21 days of receiving their reservation application approval email.
