Ann Arbor named a Bird City Michigan
We’re soaring with excitement! By demonstrating our commitment to creating healthy bird habitats the City of Ann Arbor has officially been designated a Bird City Michigan* community! We’re thankful for the Natural Area Preservation team and the Washtenaw Bird & Nature Alliance who diligently documented bird-friendly actions and events throughout the city. Check out our accomplishments and learn about local birding hotspots and outdoor, family-friendly events online.
Ann Arbor is sharing its patch of the planet with our feathered friends by building vibrant, nature-connected places for people to live, learn, and thrive! *Launched by Michigan Audubon and adapted from the national Bird City model, Bird City Michigan encourages local governments, conservation groups, and community leaders to come together and take science-based, meaningful action for birds. Bird Walks
Ann Arbor's parks are great places to see birds with the whole family. NAP's Ornithologist, Juliet Berger, leads bird walks in the spring and fall seasons for interested bird watchers.
There will typically be:
- A walk in May at Gallup Park, to look for newly arrived nesting birds like the Baltimore Oriole.
- A walk in September at Mary Beth Doyle Park, to see migrating shorebirds and warblers.
These bird walks are family friendly, and Gallup and Mary Beth Doyle Parks are handicap accessible.
Please check our calendar for information on future bird walks.
