About the Office of Emergency Management
The Office of Emergency Management (OEM), housed under the Ann Arbor Fire Department, is dedicated to ensuring the City of Ann Arbor is prepared for all hazards—whether weather-related, technological, or human-caused. OEM focuses on the four phases of emergency management: preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery. The office plans for large citywide events, oversees all emergency planning, manages the Emergency Operations Center, and conducts comprehensive training and exercises. OEM also maintains the city’s outdoor warning siren system and the A2 Emergency Alert System to ensure timely public notification. With a commitment to protecting and supporting everyone who lives in, works in, or visits Ann Arbor, OEM works year-round to strengthen the city’s safety and resilience.
