Ann Arbor Sustainable Energy Utility
The future of energy in Ann Arbor is making history
Ann Arbor voters authorized the creation of the city’s new Sustainable Energy Utility in November 2024. The Sustainable Energy Utility (known as the A2SEU or just SEU) is an innovative new form of municipal energy utility. It’s optional (sign up only if you want), supplemental (you’ll stay connected to the current grid), community-owned and provides 100% local, renewable and clean energy solutions.
Please note: The A2SEU doesn't sell door-to-door
It's been brought to the city's attention unaffiliated solar sales representatives are going door-to-door in Ann Arbor and either falsely claiming to represent the A2SEU and/or misrepresenting the A2SEU (e.g., claiming a resident is not eligible for the A2SEU), in attempts to sign up residents for unrelated, private solar loans.
The A2SEU and the vendors affiliated with the A2SEU do not go door to door. Residents uncertain whether a representative or company are A2SEU-affiliated, or whether they are "eligible" for the A2SEU, should always contact the A2SEU first, at SEU@a2gov.org. Do not agree/sign paperwork if you have any uncertainties or feelings of being pressured to do so. Reports to the city also note the private companies are often using high-pressure sales tactics to sign up on the spot. Please be aware, ask questions - contact the A2SEU - and don't be misled!
A2SEU: The future ... is now!
Right now, the sun is shining on the Bryant neighborhood, with solar+battery systems being installed and activated on more than 80 homes (September 2026)! And we're just getting started. The A2SEU will continue connecting Bryant residents through the pilot program while preparing to launch citywide in 2027.
