​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​The Planning and Development Services Unit is one of four service units in the Community Services Area.  Its staff of 33 inspectors, planners and support specialists provide the following services

  • ​Appeal​ Boards​: Support to Building, Housing, Zoni​ng Boards
  • Construction and Building: Construction plan review, permits, inspections, code enforcement
  • Development Review: ​​Site plan review, citizen participation, support to Design Review Board​​
  • Historic Preservation: Support to Historic District Commission, permits, code enforcement
  • ​Planning: Support to Planning Commission, master planning, planning initiatives, neighborhood registration
  • Rental Housing: Residential rental housing inspections, code enforcement, short-term rentals
  • Zoning: ​Zoning permits, reports, code enforcement, zoning maps

NOTICE: City Hall is now open to the public.  The building department will have limited on-site staff and over the counter services available M-F 8a-5p.  Permit applications must continue to be submitted electronically [email protected] or by fax at 734.994.8460; permit applications will not be processed over the counter. incomplete applications will result in processing delays. Please continue t​​​​o utilize eTrakit for scheduling inspections, and checking inspection times and results.​ Permit applications can be founhere​.​​​  Please contact the Water D​epartment​ for ROW, barricade and sidewalk occupancy permits or call 734-794-6320​.
