Workshops & Services

CTN offers free video production training and access to professional equipment for Ann Arbor residents and local non-profits. Our workshops cover various aspects of television and digital media production, with hands-on experience in each area.

Eligibility: Proof of residency is required (photo ID). Make sure to verify if you are an Ann Arbor resident. Check to see if you are an Ann Arbor resident.

Workshops Offered:

• Preview — Prerequisite A one-hour, one-on-one introduction with CTN staff to learn about CTN’s services, facilities, equipment, and resources. The Preview can also be completed through an introductory email or phone conversation.
• Studio- Go behind the scenes in a professional television studio and learn how a program is created. This hands-on workshop covers operating a three-camera studio, including studio lighting, set design, camera operation, audio setup and monitoring, on-screen graphics, video switching, and directing from the control room.
• Podcast Studio - Produce programs and podcasts with minimal assistance with full studio results in CTN’s Mini Studio. This workshop provides participants with hands on experience in a small, self-controlled studio environment, including remote camera operation, audio mixing, graphics, and video switching. 
• Remote Equipment -Learn how to use digital cameras and related field-production equipment for recording on location. Training may include cameras, tripods, microphones, lighting, and other available production equipment. Equipment models and availability are subject to change.
• Video Editing -Learn the basics of video editing using CTN’s current editing software. Topics include importing and organizing media, using standard editing tools, creating and editing a project, exporting finished videos, and digital media management.
• One-Night Workshops- Additional workshops are offered periodically based on interest and availability.
