Feb. 28 Public Meeting Set for Ann Arbor Police Department CALEA Reaccreditation

Archived News Release: February 22, 2022 - The Ann Arbor Police Department (AAPD) is scheduled to participate in an on-site assessment process to verify its professional standards compliance, as part of a program for reaccreditation with the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA, https://www.calea.org/).

The accreditation program requires agencies to comply with best-practice standards in areas that include, but are not limited to, policies and procedures, administration, operations, and support services. Earning CALEA accreditation aligns with AAPD's commitment to transparency, accountability, and overall excellence.

As part of the on-site assessment, AAPD employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments at an online public information session on Monday Feb. 28, 2022, at 5:00 p.m. The session will be conducted on Zoom. Please visit the AAPD website, www.a2gov.org/police, for the Zoom link on the meeting day, Feb. 28.

CALEA assessors will provide an overview of the accreditation program in addition to collecting input. To become familiar with the CALEA standards of compliance in advance of the Feb. 28 meeting, visit https://www.calea.org/node/11406.

Agency employees and members of the community are also invited to offer comments by calling 734.794.6970 on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, between the hours of 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Members of the assessment team will take comments.

Telephone comments, as well as those made at the virtual public information session, will be restricted to a 10-minute time limit for the police department's ability to comply with standards set forth by CALEA.

Anyone wishing to submit written comment about the Ann Arbor Police Department's ability to comply with the standards for accreditation may send them to the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement (CALEA), 13575 Heathcote Boulevard, Suite 320, Gainesville, Virginia, 20155; or email: [email protected]. All written comments must be received by March 1, 2022, in order to be included for consideration.
