Archived News Release: October 23, 2019 - Trick-or-treating in Ann Arbor neighborhoods will take place 5–8 p.m. on Halloween, Thursday, Oct. 31, for residents who choose to participate. Trick-or-treaters should be supervised at all times, and should stay in neighborhoods that are well-lit and familiar. Here are more reminders to help keep your Halloween happy.
Be aware that dusk is the time of poorest visibility for drivers.
Choose a costume that is easy to walk in, easy to see out of and is visible to motorists.
Wear a light-colored costume, and/or use reflective tape on the costume.
Avoid billowing costumes and flowing wigs, as they are dangerous around an open flame, including candles in jack-o-lanterns.
Wigs and costumes should be made of non-flammable materials.
Loose costumes, oversized bags or unsafe shoes can cause falls or accidents.
An adult should always inspect collected candy and treats for potential tampering or foreign objects.
Unpackaged items such as popcorn or small candies should be discarded.
Candy with loose or torn wrappings should be discarded.
If you discover anything wrong with the treats brought home, report it to law enforcement so that other parents may be warned and the situation investigated by police. In Ann Arbor, call the police nonemergency line at 734.994.2911.

Fall-themed and Halloween events are taking place in Ann Arbor throughout the remainder of October and into November. Check out these fun ways to celebrate the season:
Ann Arbor Farmers Market Halloween Bash, 315 Detroit St. | www.a2gov.org/market. On Saturday, Oct. 26, 10 a.m.–1 p.m., all are invited as the Ann Arbor Farmers Market partners with the city's volunteer program, GIVE 365, for pumpkin decorating, treat stations and other festivities in celebration of Halloween. Children are encouraged to wear their costumes. This event is FREE! The schedule for the day:
- Alexander the Magician will perform, 10 a.m.–1 p.m.
- Trick-or-treat candy giveaway, 11 a.m.–1 p.m.
- Pumpkin decorating, 11 a.m.–1 p.m. (while pumpkins are available).
Halloween Skate at Veterans Memorial Indoor Ice Arena, 2150 Jackson Ave. | www.a2gov.org/vets. On Saturday, Oct. 26, 1–2:30 p.m., gather family and friends to ice skate to the spooky sounds of Halloween. Best costume prizes will be awarded at this fun-for-all-ages event. General admission rates apply.
Halloween Potluck Dinner, Ann Arbor Senior Center, 1320 Baldwin Ave. | www.a2gov.org/departments/Parks-Recreation/play/Pages/trickortreat.aspx. All ages are welcome to join the fun at the Ann Arbor Senior Center Wednesday, Oct. 30, 4–7 p.m. The Halloween potluck event is free and will include a craft activity and a movie (Hotel Transylvania). Please bring a dish to pass!
2019 Chili Open, Leslie Park Golf Course, 2120 Traver Road, Ann Arbor, 48105 | www.a2gov.org/departments/Parks-Recreation/parks-places/leslie-park/Pages/default.aspx. Register today for great golf and great chili at the 2019 Chili Open, taking place on Sunday, Nov. 17 at 10 a.m. There will be drink specials and the chance to win great prizes.
