City to Welcome New Deputy Chief of Police

Archived News Release: December 11, 2017 - The Ann Arbor Police Department has hired a new deputy chief, Jason Forsberg, whose first day with the city will be on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018. While new to this position in Ann Arbor, Forsberg has served with the University of Michigan Police Department for more than 20 years, starting off as a police officer then a detective before advancing to sergeant, lieutenant and, ultimately, captain at the Ann Arbor campus. He transferred to the Dearborn campus in 2016, where he served as deputy chief of police.

Forsberg earned a bachelor's degree from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., and is currently pursuing a master of public administration degree at the University of Michigan, Dearborn campus. He holds a criminal justice education certificate from the University of Virginia in Quantico, Va., and completed the licensing requirements for the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (M.C.O.L.E.S) with the Washtenaw Community College Police Academy.

"We are fortunate to bring in someone like Jason who has extensive experience, but also a local connection and familiarity with the culture in Ann Arbor," said Ann Arbor Police Chief Jim Baird.

Forsberg will be responsible for the AAPD support services division, which is comprised of the administrative services, professional standards and special services sections. He will serve alongside Deputy Chief Bob Pfannes, who, since his promotion to this position in April 2016, has been responsible for both the support services and operations divisions. DC Pfannes will continue to oversee the road patrol and detective sections as the operations division commander going forward.
