Updates

Project subcontractor, Doan Construction, is working on modifications to the side street curb openings and sidewalk ramps placed in conjunction with the curb bump outs constructed at several intersections within the project corridor. These modifications will replace the ADA compliant ramps constructed last fall with new ones that align with the existing sidewalks along both sides of Arborview Boulevard and provide a more contiguous route for pedestrians crossing at these locations. This work together with the necessary restoration of turf areas resulting from it and other project cleanup is anticipated to be complete by July 15, 2023.

Why is this project being done?

  • Improve pavement conditions.
  • Upgrade certain stormwater system components.
  • Upgrade sidewalk ramps within the corridor.
  • Address objectives from the Ann Arbor Moving Together Toward Vision Zero Transportation Plan.
  • Address objectives identified through public engagement initiatives planned for the project. These initiatives will assist to guide the final scope determination and complete the design.

Work to be done

  • Full depth removal and replacement of the asphalt pavement to eliminate potholes, provide a smoother driving surface, and increase the service life of the street.
  • Replace stormwater curb drain inlets, segments of concrete curb and driveway openings, areas of concrete sidewalk and driveway approach aprons.
  • Upgrades or new installations of concrete sidewalk ramps (as required to meet current Americans with Disabilities Act standards).
  • Other work could be added to the project pending the outcome of public engagement initiatives.

Cost & Funding Source

City of Ann Arbor Bridge, Sidewalk and Street Millage and ACT 51 funds (Gas & Weight tax revenue) from the State of Michigan.
