Help Ann Arbor Name its New Mobile Resilience Unit!

The City of Ann Arbor Office of Sustainability and Innovations (OSI) is inviting community members to submit names for its new Solar Mobile Nanogrid Unit resilience tool. From the Jackson, Michigan-based company, Sesame Solar, this unit is a fully self-sustaining, solar-powered trailer that’s as versatile as it is innovative. Ann Arbor’s unit will serve as more than just a mobile power source; it will also be a hands-on, mobile classroom and community engagement tool aimed at bringing sustainability and resilience education directly to Ann Arbor residents.
OSI is now seeking name suggestions from the public for the new unit, with these criteria in mind:
The name should reflect the purpose and capabilities of the unit (for example, it runs completely on renewable energy, can be used to back up buildings)
- The name should be appropriate for all ages
- Submissions will be accepted until Friday, Oct. 3, at 5 p.m.
- Creativity is encouraged
The unit will be deployed at the 25th A2ZERO Green Fair, taking place Friday, Sept. 19, 5–8 p.m. in downtown Ann Arbor. Need some creative inspiration? Come by to see the unit for yourself, between Huron and Washington streets. Visitors will have the opportunity to get up close and take a tour, providing a sneak peek at the potential benefits it brings to Ann Arbor.
“We are ecstatic to add this unit to our toolbox, helping us advance resilience, foster enhanced community engagement, and continue growing our culture of preparedness,” said Dr. Missy Stults, director of the office of sustainability and innovations for the city. “Since this is a tool that’s being deployed into and for the community, I’m glad the name that will be bestowed upon it will come from within community.”
