City of Ann Arbor reaches tentative agreement with AFSCME Local 369
The City of Ann Arbor and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Local 369 reached a tentative agreement on Thursday, Oct. 29, for a new three-year contract covering 2026 through 2028 after months of mediation and negotiations.
“AFSCME employees are essential to the work of the City of Ann Arbor,” said City Administrator Milton Dohoney Jr. “Every day, these dedicated public servants help deliver the services our residents rely on and keep our city running. Their hard work and expertise deserve our recognition and respect. This tentative agreement reflects our commitment to investing in our employees while being responsible stewards of public resources.”
The proposed agreement includes improvements to employee compensation and benefits intended to recognize employees’ contributions and support recruitment and retention, while balancing the city’s long-term financial responsibilities.
The agreement also includes provisions intended to strengthen communication and collaboration between the city and union, creating opportunities to work together on workforce priorities and operational needs.
“We appreciate the commitment of everyone involved in reaching this tentative agreement,” Dohoney said. “While the negotiations have been lengthy, they have also created opportunities for greater understanding and collaboration. We look forward to building on that progress as we continue working together to support our employees and provide excellent service to the Ann Arbor community.”
The tentative agreement remains subject to ratification by AFSCME Local 369 membership and final city approval. Additional information will be available following completion of the approval process.
