City of Ann Arbor Announces New Rebates for Electric Yard Care Equipment

Residents and businesses are invited to claim rebates after trading in gas equipment

The City of Ann Arbor is launching a newly expanded rebate program for electric yard care equipment beginning April 1, 2026. This program will allow residents and businesses to trade in gas yard care equipment and receive a rebate for electric or manual equipment of the same type.

The City of Ann Arbor’s yard care rebates can be used to purchase manual or electric yard care equipment including leaf blowers, snow blowers, lawn mowers, hedge trimmers and more at any retailer. The rebate amount will be up to 100% of the cost of a new piece of manual equipment or up to 50% of the cost of a new piece of electric equipment.  To receive a rebate, residents and businesses will be required to trade in old gas-powered equipment by recycling it through the process laid out on the City of Ann Arbor’s website, linked below.

“We have been thrilled with the response to our pilot rebate program for snow blowers and leaf blowers, and we are very happy to be able to expand this program to include more equipment, and to operate year-round,” said Missy Stults, Director of the City of Ann Arbor’s Office of Sustainability and Innovations. “Transitioning away from polluting gas-powered equipment creates a cleaner, healthier and much quieter Ann Arbor.” To learn more about rebate amounts and how to apply, visit osi.a2gov.org/rebates.

Residents can also save thousands of dollars for home energy improvements through the City of Ann Arbor’s A2ZERO Home Energy Rebates. These rebates cover measures such as heat pumps, water heaters, battery storage, induction cooktops, electrical upgrades, insulation and air sealing, lawn equipment and more. All of the above-mentioned rebates are funded by the 2022 Community Climate Action Millage, approved by Ann Arbor residents to fund local climate action.

This work is part of A2ZERO, the City of Ann Arbor’s plan, vision, framework, and associated actions for a just and equitable transition to carbon neutrality, community-wide, by the year 2030. To learn more and find out where you fit in, visit a2zero.org.
