Ann Arbor Sustainable Energy Utility invites residents to express interest in local, renewable energy

Ann Arbor’s Sustainable Energy Utility is soliciting expressions of interest from residents and businesses as the city plans to hook its first customers up to clean, renewable energy later this year.

To encourage people to sign up, the city has released a brief, animated video produced by Ann Arbor’s Kohlitz Animation and Production that provides an overview of the Sustainable Energy Utility.

Residents can watch the video and express their interest, commitment-free, at www.A2SEU.com

“The Ann Arbor Sustainable Energy Utility is a bold innovation,” said Sustainable Energy Utility Executive Director Shoshannah Lenski. “It’s building the future of energy right here in our city.”

The Ann Arbor Sustainable Energy Utility is an opt-in, supplemental utility offering renewable, clean, reliable and affordable energy to city residents and businesses. It was created by voters in 2024 to accelerate Ann Arbor’s clean energy transformation.

The Sustainable Energy Utility is preparing to launch its first pilot solar and energy storage services in 2026, followed by expanded offerings citywide in 2027.

The Sustainable Energy Utility is using grant dollars awarded in 2025 by ICLEI- Local Governments for Sustainability USA and CGC to market the utility’s services, prepare an operational plan and develop a financial strategy.
