Ann Arbor provides Primary Election updates

Ann Arbor polling places closed and absentee ballot collection ended at 8 p.m. for the 2026 primary election. 

Precincts and the Absent Vote Counting Board, which tabulates absentee ballots, are continuing to report their tallies. 

Voters in Ann Arbor were asked to weigh in on two ballot proposals and choose general election candidates for mayor and council members in all five wards.

A total of 260 ballots were issued Tuesday to newly registered voters.

Early reports from the precincts suggest a 35% voter turnout citywide, including absentee ballots, early in-person votes and Election Day ballots cast. As expected, in-person voting on Tuesday was modest due to high early turnout, including absentee ballot returns and turnout at the city’s four early voting sites. Final turnout numbers will be reported Wednesday on the Ann Arbor Elections Media Hub.

More than 4,300 absentee ballots were returned Tuesday at city drop boxes and in the mail. The ballots collected at drop boxes at 8 p.m. are were being checked in by city staff and are expected to be delivered to the ACVB by 10:30 p.m.

The City Clerk's Office for the first time reported the results of the AVCB’s early tabulation that took place on Saturday, Aug. 1, shortly after the polls closed Tuesday.
