Ann Arbor Police and Fire Open House is Saturday, May 16

Meet local first responders at the annual Ann Arbor Police and Fire Open House! The free, outdoor event is Saturday, May 16, 11 a.m.–1 p.m., on Fifth Avenue between Huron and East Ann streets, alongside Ann Arbor Fire Station No. 1, 111 N. Fifth Ave. Kids — and kids-at-heart — will be able to:

  • Meet Ann Arbor police officers and firefighters
  • Get up close with the police K-9 unit 
  • Touch a truck — fire and police vehicles
  • Spray a fire hose
  • Learn about emergency preparedness, fire extinguishers and more
  • Grab a bite — Free hot dogs while they last
  • And more!

Event goers interested in public safety careers can also talk with first responders about diverse career paths including fire inspectors and marshals, emergency managers, emergency medical technicians, police detectives, K-9 handlers, evidence technicians, divers, bicycle officers, crisis negotiators and more. 

The Ann Arbor Police and Fire Open House has become a staple over the years, providing a fun, inclusive opportunity for the community to connect with public safety personnel. The departments are committed to outreach and engagement, offering station tours, ride alongs, speaking events at schools, neighborhood meetings and volunteer programs.
