Archived News Release: March 8, 2022 - Continuing the work of a just transition to carbon neutrality by 2030, the City of Ann Arbor Office of Sustainability and Innovations (OSI) is proposing a new Green Rental Housing policy designed to promote the health, safety, comfort and energy efficiency of rental housing. The city is seeking public input on this policy throughout March 2022.
Developed with the help of a task force of tenants, landlords, low-income housing representatives and city departments, the goal of the Green Rental Housing program is to present a creative and attainable approach to encouraging energy-efficient solutions for rental units citywide. The task force convened throughout 2021 and early 2022 to develop the policy recommendations, which are now being shared for public comment. OSI is looking for feedback from all residents, especially tenants, landlords and property management firms, about the draft policy recommendations before revising and sharing with Ann Arbor City Council.
“We want the Green Rental Housing program to improve the renting experience for both tenants and landlords in Ann Arbor," said Zach Waas Smith, OSI community engagement specialist. “The idea behind the program is that everyone deserves to live in healthy, safe and comfortable homes."
