Archived News Release: September 25, 2019 - The City of Ann Arbor and the Washtenaw County Water Resources Commission are partnering on a streambank stabilization project on a tributary to the Huron River to address stormwater management and ecological design on the Huron Hills Golf Course.
City staff will hold a public meeting to explain the project, answer questions and receive feedback on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2019, 6-7 p.m. at the Huron Hills Golf Course clubhouse, located at 3465 E. Huron River Drive.
The streambank is exhibiting bank erosion with high volumes of sediment being removed and deposited downstream. The creek (approximately 2,000 feet in total length along the channel) will be regraded, stabilized and naturalized. This proposed project will alleviate golf course flooding, address bank erosion as well as produce a reduction of the phosphorus load in the Huron River. In addition, there are opportunities to recreate the natural flow path of water, potentially creating wetlands and habitat on the golf course. Constructed wetlands are one of the best methods for removing pollutants, mitigation of peak flow rates, can reduce runoff volumes all while also creating other considerable aesthetic and wildlife benefits.
