Archived News Release: September 12, 2019 - On Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019, Ann Arbor Natural Area Preservation will welcome volunteers to Bluffs Nature Area for celebration of the 26th annual National Public Lands Day (NPLD). All are invited to join the activities geared toward restoring and caring for our public lands. From 9 a.m. to noon, volunteers will protect the wooded hills of Bluffs Nature Area from invasive shrubs so this valued public land can continue to be enjoyed by hikers and mountain bikers alike. Volunteers will help cut honeysuckle and buckthorn to keep this area beautiful. Participants should meet at the nature area entrance on Sunset Road near Wildt Street. Long pants and closed-toe shoes should be worn. Every participant must present a completed release form; and all minors should be accompanied by a guardian. Tools, snacks and know-how provided.
Organized each year by the National Environmental Education Foundation (NEEF), and nationally sponsored by Toyota Motor North America, National Public Lands Day is the nation's largest single-day volunteer effort for public lands. This involves conducting plant and animal inventories, ecological monitoring, and stewardship projects in Ann Arbor parks. Both staff and volunteers perform these tasks.
