City to Celebrate May Water Month with Events & Opportunities

Archived News Release: April 25, 2019 - With observances such as Drinking Water Week May 5–11; Infrastructure Week May 13–19; and National Public Works Week May 19–25, it's easy to see why May has been coined Water Month. To celebrate, the City of Ann Arbor will be highlighting how our community handles and interacts with this most-precious resource by discussing the importance of water infrastructure and the vital role city public works staff plays in maintaining it.

Over the course of May, facts and stories will be shared on the city's Facebook and Twitter pages. In addition, the city will be hosting several events about water.

On Saturday, May 11, the City of Ann Arbor Water Treatment Plant, where Ann Arbor drinking water is made, will hold its open house event 10 a.m.–2 p.m. Located at 919 Sunset Road in Ann Arbor, the open house will feature tours every 20 minutes, exhibits, giveaways, light refreshments and kids activities. Learn more about how Ann Arbor's award-winning water is made at this family friendly event. Information can be found at a2gov.org/a2H2O

At noon Wednesday, May 15, the city will host a one-hour stormwater “Ask Me Anything" segment on Facebook. Staff will be taking questions, live, and discussing all things stormwater. Join us at facebook.com/TheCityOfAnnArbor/ and bring your best questions.

Then on Sunday, May 19, noon–4 p.m., Ann Arbor will hold Huron River Day. Huron River Day celebrates the river where we get our water and where the water that falls from the sky or goes down our sinks eventually ends up. The day will include $5 boat rentals, live music, river exhibits, fishing, an antique boat show, local food vendors, demonstrations and much more! Details at a2gov.org/HRD
