Scio Church Road Project to Resume Next Spring
Archived News Release: November 21, 2018 - Due to the early onset of colder weather and the impacts of the labor dispute between the Michigan Transportation and Infrastructure Associated and the Operating Engineer's Local 324, the City of Ann Arbor has determined it is no longer possible to complete the Scio Church Improvements Project in a manner consistent with good construction practices and quality workmanship. To that end, the city has decided to “winterize" the project area, Scio Church Road from South Main Street to South Seventh Street, until spring 2019 when the weather will be conducive to performing the remaining construction activities.
In the next several days, the contractor will perform work necessary to safely reopen Scio Church Road and the South Seventh Street/Scio Church Road intersection to two-way traffic. One important element of this work will be to restripe the roadway and intersection to allow two-way traffic. In order to do this, temperatures must be above freezing and the roadway surface dry. Given the weather conditions, it is unclear when this work could be performed, but it will be done, and the roadway reopened, as soon as practicable.
