Archived News Release: September 6, 2018 - Several road projects within the city of Ann Arbor may experience or are currently experiencing delays due to the ongoing labor dispute between Operation Engineers Local 324 and the Michigan Infrastructure and Transportation Association. At this point in time, it is unclear when the dispute will be resolved. The projects currently impacted are:
Scio Church Road
Roadway construction has progressed to the point of asphalt paving on the south half of Scio Church Road. Unfortunately, the asphalt paving subcontractor is one of the contractors involved in the labor dispute. Consequently, the prime contractor for the project has revised their work schedule to begin construction of the sidewalk along the south side of the roadway in order to perform work tasks not affected by the dispute. Traffic controls currently in place will remain until such time as asphalt paving operations can resume and move into the next phase of the construction.
Please note, the traffic control plan currently in place only permits westbound traffic between South Main and South Seventh streets. This means only westbound traffic will be permitted on Scio Church Road on Saturday, Sept. 8 for the University of Michigan home football game.
South Seventh Street
Paving South Seventh Street is currently delayed due to the labor dispute. In the meantime, the southbound lane of Seventh Street will be closed from Huron to Liberty in order to perform a water main connection during off-school hours. Motorists should continue to follow the posted detour.
Pauline Boulevard
Construction is ongoing, but delayed, on Pauline Boulevard between Stadium Boulevard and Seventh Street. The road is completely closed to westbound traffic. Eastbound traffic is being maintained for local traffic only. Motorists should continue to follow the posted detour. Should the dispute continue, the backlog of projects caused may result in further delays.
