Sanitary Sewer Overflow Notification

At approximately 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 3, 2018, the City of Ann Arbor was notified of water leaking from a manhole at the intersection of Warwick Rd. and Glenwood Rd., north of Washtenaw Ave. Upon further investigation, City Public Works crews identified this as a sanitary sewer overflow. The blockage was a result of a sanitary sewage line blocked by tree roots. Crews worked quickly to clear the obstruction to fix the problem.

As a result of the overflow, an estimated 1,100 gallons of sewage discharged into Malletts Creek, ultimately flowing to the Huron River. At this time, no immediate recreational facilities are impacted.

In accordance with regulatory protocols, City of Ann Arbor staff contacted the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality to inform them of this unfortunate incident.
