December 2022 Water Champion

Archived News Release: November 30, 2022 - Congratulations to our December Water Champion, City of Ann Arbor Emergency Management Coordinator Sydney Parmenter, who was recently named Emergency Management Professional of the Year by the Michigan Emergency Management Association (MEMA).

“I am thrilled that MEMA recognized the high caliber of work Emergency Management Coordinator Parmenter delivers to the Ann Arbor community," said City of Ann Arbor Fire Chief Mike Kennedy. “Within a short period of time, she has made a remarkable and immediate impact on the city's emergency planning, preparedness, and response capabilities. She is a dedicated public servant and we are incredibly lucky to have her on our team."

Parmenter was recognized for her emergency preparedness work with the Ann Arbor Public Schools, enhancements to city-wide public emergency alerting via Everbridge and coordination emergency response efforts on multiple incidents including an extended power outage, a flooding event, major water main break requiring a boil water advisory and a chromium release into the Huron River. She also completed the city's five-year Hazard Mitigation Plan, which outlines how Ann Arbor residents experience local hazards, activities individuals have taken to prepare for local hazards, and activities the city should take to enhance city-wide preparedness and resilience.​
