Taxicabs

The licensing and regulation of taxicabs and taxicab drivers is no longer under the control of the City of Ann Arbor. This is as of the passage of PA345 of 2016 (HB4637). Taxicab regulation and licensing is managed by the State of Michigan.

Limos and TNCs

Limousines operate under the State limo law. Limos are not regulated by the City of Ann Arbor. Limos may not act as a taxicab, present themselves as a taxi or offer taxicab services. Limos may only take pre-arranged rides and these rides are typically have a price set in advance or a fixed fee.

Transportation network companies, or TNCs, offer smart phone apps. Passengers and drivers can use use these apps to arrange for rides for fares. TNC companies and drivers are not regulated or licensed by the City.
