The City Planning Commission and Planning Staff are evaluating the feasibility of amending the City's parking regulations for new development projects.

In 1999 and 2000, the City amended parking requirements for professional office, retail, lending institutions, and medical/dental office by reducing the required number of parking spaces and adding a maximum number of parking spaces that could be provided.  The City is now exploring the possibility of reducing the number of required parking spaces for all land uses including new development projects downtown.  The amendments would only effect new development projects.

The intent of these amendments is to reduce the amount of unused impervious surfaces, use land more efficiently, encourage more affordable housing, and support mass transit.
