Day Camp Outdoor Pool Swim Lessons Swim Team Splash Days

Buhr Outdoor Pool is open for the 2018 summer season.  Our hours for general swimming are 3:30-8 p.m. Monday through Friday and from noon-8 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.  Our schedule will change on June 16 and offer more times for adult lap swimming and tot splash, so check back with us then or scroll down to the pool section of this site to learn more. Buhr Park Outdoor Ice Arena is now closed for the 2018 season.  We will reopen in November of 2018.  The rink has a cooled subfloor that allows us to maintain ice even when it is over 50 degrees outside! Activities include public ice skating, drop-in hockey and rental hours.

Buhr Park is a 39-acre park serving the south central part of Ann Arbor. The park is open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. year round and features softball diamonds, two tennis courts, play equipment, a basketball court, open field play, a sledding hill, picnic facilities with a grill, an outdoor pool with a family activity pool (open in the spring/summer) and an open-air ice arena (open in the fall/winter). Summer day camp is one of the popular programs offered at Buhr Park. To sign up for programs, please use the online registratio​n system​. Buhr ​Park is adjacent to Cobblestone Farm, a historic barn that serves as a venue for weddings and other rental opportunities, as well as the home of the Ann Arbor Parks and Recreation Customer Service Center. ​

Outdoor Pool

Buhr Park Pool features a fan-shaped, zero-depth area with interactive water play features and a 25yard lap pool with a 12 foot diving well.  We offer lounge chairs, picnic area, tennis courts and a shaded deck area.

Summer Season Pass Pricing

Summer season passes are valid from May 26 - Sept. 3, 2018. Season passes can be used at Buhr, Fuller and Veterans Memorial park pools for all public swim times and tot splashes. Passes may be purchased at all of the pools, the Parks and Recreation Customer Service Center (Cobblestone Farm, 2781 Packard Road), or our online registration website.

Public Swimming

June 18 - Sept. 3:

  • Adult Lap Swimming, Monday-Friday, noon-1 p.m.
  • Public Swimming, Monday-Friday 1-8 p.m. and Saturdays/Sundays/holidays, noon-8 p.m.
  • Tot Splash, (for children 7 years of age and younger when accompanied by an adult) Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.  Tuesdays and Thursdays from noon-1 p.m.
  • Family Swim, (for adults over the age of 18, and children supervised by someone 18 years or older) Monday through Friday from 5-6:30pm

Dog Swim 2018

Woof woof! Once Buhr Park Pool closes to the public for the season, it’s time for our four-legged friends to make a splash. Join us at the Dog Swim Wednesday, Sept. 5 and Thursday, Sept. 6, 3–8 p.m. Swim times in half-hour increments must be registered for in advance. Spaces are limited for this popular event. To register, call 734.794.6234. Buhr Park is located at 2751 Packard Rd. The cost for the first dog is $6 for residents/$7.50 for nonresidents, and for the second dog, $3 residents/$3.75 nonresidents. 

Swim Lessons

Group lessons are offered for children from the age of 6 months up.  Class size is limited. Ability requirements must be honored unless prior
instructor approval is granted. Registration will be accepted for any instructional swim class at any of the city pools during any public swim time, by phone or online. Private lessons are available during during group lessons session 

Helps ages 6 months to 18 months to become comfortable in the water and learn skills with the help of a parent or adult. 30-minute class. $45, resident/$55, nonresident. All sessions: 10:10am or 11:30am


Intro to water skills for tykes who are just starting off. Swimmers will be in the water with only an instructor and need to be at least 4 years old to participate in this class. 30-minute class. $45, resident/$55, nonresident.

Fundamental aquatic skills for those who can fully submerge head, float independently, blow bubbles and feel comfortable in the water. 30-minute class. $45, resident/$55, nonresident.

Beginning stroke development for those who can push off the side, flutter kick on back/front with arm actions and float on their front and back comfortably. 30-minute class. $45, resident/$55, nonresident.

Stroke improvement for those who can swim front and back crawl for 20 yards, demonstrate butterfly and breaststroke and tread water for 60 seconds. 45-minute class. $55 resident/$70 nonresident. 
  • All Sessions: 10 or 11 am


Stroke refinement for those who have coordinated front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, butterfly, and elementary back stroke. 45-minute class. $55, resident/$70, nonresident. 
  • All Sessions: 9 am

Private Lessons

Individual swim instruction for swimmers ages 3 to adult are private lessons, 30-minutes long and customized to meet the needs of the
swimming participant. Private lessons are for one participant only. Fee: half hour $15 resident; $18 nonresident. Call or go online to register.

Swim Team

Be a part of the Buhr Park Sharks Swim Team.  Buhr Park's Lobby. Our swim team provides an introduction to team competitive swimming, basic skill development and a strengthening program for more advanced swimmers. We provide an opportunity to compete in up to six swim meets and an area-wide conference meet through the Washtenaw Interclub Swimming Conference. This team is open to anyone ages 5 to 17 years old who can swim at least one length of the pool (front crawl). Swimmers with special needs are encouraged to join. Practices are Monday through Friday mornings. Meets are held Saturday mornings. The swim team program begins the week of June 12-July 27. Registration begins Feb. 5, and the per-child fee is $125, resident/$150, nonresident. $10 discount for multi-child registrations.

Splash Days

Mark your calendar for Saturday, Aug. 4, 2-4 pm. Our friends and volunteers at GIVE 365 will be at the pool to lead a variety of fun activities and pool games. Join us and see what it’s all about! Pool admission rates apply, but the added fun is free.

Day Camp

From animals and world travel to Hogwarts and Disney, an adventure awaits each week for children ages 5-12. Our certified staff will lead a day filled with themed activities and swimming in Buhr Park Outdoor Pool. Campers will enjoy traditional camp games, sports, and crafts that are tailored to fit each week’s individual theme. Campers will also enjoy swimming outside as well as learn about the animals and lifestyles of early settlers by visiting Cobblestone Farm. Our staff are certified in First Aid and CPR. Please enjoy a $20 per week discount if you register by April 30.

The facility has a heated lobby, vending, restrooms and four separate locker rooms for hockey. Skate rentals are available. Skate sharpening available.  Immediate service, $6; overnight, $5.

Rent the ice arena

Hourly. This is great for hockey teams. Prime-time rental, resident: $165/nonresidents: $220. Non-prime time rental, resident: $120/nonresidents: $150. Saturdays, Sundays and after 3 p.m. Monday to Friday are considered prime time days. Ann Arbor Public School breaks, after noon, are considered prime time.  One-time Rentals. Great for birthday parties/group functions. Prime-time rental, resident: $180/nonresidents: $220. Non-prime-time rental, resident: $145/nonresidents: $180.​

Extended Season Policy

Weather permitting, the Buhr Park Ice Rink season may be extended for a maximum of two weeks.  Buhr Park management will determine if the weather will enable the ice arena to continue operating at an efficient level after the scheduled March 19 closing date.  If the predicted high temperature (per will be consistently below 45 degrees, Buhr Park will continue limited public skating and drop-in hockey times for up to one week.  The procedure will be followed again for the following week to determine if the ice arena will be open for up to a second additional week.
