History

Ann Arbor's city parks sit on the ancestral and traditional homelands of several indigenous Native peoples. Read a land acknowledgement from the city and learn more about the early history of the land here.

The city acquired the land for Plymouth Parkway Park in 1927. The land was gifted to the city by the Board of Road Commissioners of the County of Washtenaw. It was given under the condition that the land can only be used as park land. The park served to create an attractive and welcoming entrance to the city for drivers heading downtown using Plymouth Road. The playground was constructed in 2004, as $43,000 of improvements were made to the park.
