2195GoblirschI live in an apartment complex (611 church street) and our fire alarms have gone off plenty of times throughout the past academic year. Either as a false alarm or due to malfunction. They recently went off on Sunday night/ Monday morning at 3am. My property management is charging my specific apartment for the false alarm, even though it's highly unlikely since everyone is gone or was asleep. If possible, I would like the fire incident list for the entire building for the months of July-August of 2019 so I can talk to my property management. 8/2/20198/9/2019Granted

2176HagerDear Ms. Beaudry,

Under the Michigan Freedom of Information Act § 15.231 et seq., I am requesting an opportunity to inspect or obtain the following public records: all EMS emergency calls from Launch Trampoline Park, 800 W Eisenhower Pkwy, Ann Arbor, MI 48103 to the Ann Arbor Fire Department from 1/1/18 to 6/27/19.

If there are any fees for searching or copying these records, please inform me if the cost will exceed $20. However, I would also like to request a waiver of all fees in that the disclosure of the requested information is in the public interest and will contribute significantly to the public’s understanding of how much trampoline parks depend on fire department services for medical emergencies. I am a reporter with CBS Boston, and am gathering information for a news story. This information is not being sought for commercial purposes.

The Michigan Freedom of Information Act requires a response to this request within five days. If access to the records I am requesting will take longer than this amount of time, please contact me with information about when I might expect copies or the ability to inspect the requested records.

If you deny any or all of this request, please cite each specific exemption you feel justifies the refusal to release the information and notify me of the appeal procedures available to me under the law.

Thank you for considering my request.

Under the federal Clean Water Act, passed in 1972, the City of Ann Arbor was required to and did develop a sewer system "inventory" for purposes of classification of the City sewer system under the Clean Water Act as a "combined sewer system" or a "separate sanitary sewer system." This was submitted to the the predecessor of the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality. I estimate the documents are from between 1980 and 1985. I request a copy of this formal "system inventory." If the documents are voluminous, I would like to inspect them first.
2. In 1988, the classification of the Ann Arbor sewer system was changed by the State of Michigan from "combined sewer system" to "separate" and/ or "wet sanitary" sewer sytem. This is recorded in public MDEQ records. request all internal communications concerning this change in "classification" and between employees or officials of the City and State officials concerning same. The fact that such changes occurred is also recited in MDEQ public documents.
3. Emails and any other Internal communications from and to Abigail Elias, Stephen Postema and Tom Kent, all of the City Attorney's Office, with any of the search terms "FBI" or "Federal Bureau of Investigation" or "FBI Report" or "Garland" or "corruption" between July 2014 and December 2015.

1. Records of all notifications of this sanitary sewer overflow sent to the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy.
2. Records of all notifications of this event sent to "local health departments", as described in the act.
3. Records of all notifications of this event sent to "a daily newspaper of general circulation", as described in the act.

2139AskinsUnder Michigan's FOIA I hereby request a copy of

1. All records describing who acts as the City of Ann Arbor Clerk if the City Clerk is absent from the office
2. All records describing the procedure for designating who should, in a specific instance, act as City of Ann Arbor Clerk in the absence of the City Clerk.
3. All records documenting the transition of the duties of city Clerk to someone other than the City Clerk for at any time during the year 2019.

I hope that this request can be handled in an expedited way, because depending on the records produced, the validity of the mayoral veto could be challenged as not having been presented to an individual who in in meaningful sense was legally authorized to accept the veto under the City Charter. Thanks.

I’m a journalist working on a story for Bloomberg Businessweek magazine about startup exits in the Midwest.

I would like to request, under the FOIA, information or documents about Duo Security that might clarify whether it has received incentives of any kind of the city of Ann Arbor prior to its acquisition. Moreover, I would like to know if post-exit, the new owners, Cisco, are requesting any incentives to keep jobs or operations local in Ann Arbor.

If you require a formal FOIA request, please let me know.

I will follow with a phone call later today.

Thanks,

1985PetainenIn a recent public posting in the comment section of an MLIVE article, this article:

https://www.mlive.com/news/ann-arbor/2019/04/ann-arbor-councilman-faces-criticism-for-hiding-drunken-driving-arrest.html

CM Eaton makes this statement:

"My initial comments about Council Member Ackerman were based on my knowledge that the local ordinance did not allow removal from office for drunk driving. A question posted on Twitter by former local reporter Dave Askins prompted me to ask the City Attorney about the applicability of the state removal of local-officials statute to this matter. That inquiry was an attorney-client privileged communication that Mr. Ackerman improperly disclosed to the public at the April 1 Council meeting."

This is a FOIA request for the email(s) that CM describes in that statement between himself and the City Attorney(s). I do not believe that attorney-client privilege works in this case because CM Eaton publicly disclosed the email(s) in the statement above.

Thank you for listening to my request.

She also wrote in her email "There may have been one since 1930s but there’s nothing in the computer system. You may need to request a FOIA action with the clerk’s office 734.794.6140." If possible, it would be great to label each incidence and if it was a false alarm or not. (as you can tell from the request, our alarm has gone off a lot this year). Let me know if you have any questions and thanks for your help!4/4/20194/11/2019Granted

I’m interested in including a few businesses in Ann Arbor—Zingerman’s, basically—but I need to double check their record on workplace discrimination in the last 10 years.

I’d like to know, first, if there are any civil rights/discrimination complaints or violations on record with the following businesses in the last 10 years. Second, if there are violations, I would like to get copies of related paperwork.

Due to the short time frame on which I am working—due Monday the 18th—it would be very helpful if you can answer the first part of the query before securing the actual documentation.

The restaurants I’m looking into, listed as RegisteredBusinessName / DoingBusinessAs are:

6/8/2018 Matthew R. Rechtien Review 1.25 Review and respond to email question regarding use of City logo by vendor; respond to various other questions and issues.

Also under Michigan's FOIA, I hereby request a copy of the ordinance status that was drafted by Rechtien on 3/9/2018 and a copy of the correspondence described under the work record on 3/12/2018 as "respond to email from Mr. Hupy regarding seal and flag ordinance." On information and belief, neither of the sides of the correspondence meet the standard criteria that define attorney-client privileged information. And the status of the ordinance clearly does not meet the a key criterion for attorney work product, which is that it be prepared in anticipation of litigation.

1816PetainenAnn Arbor City Hall has been involved in legal battles with FDD (Footing Drain Disconnect) for a long time. I'd like to know the total cost that these lawsuits have cost the city. This total cost need not be an exact figure, but an estimate would do. I'm not looking for the cost of the infrastructure, but I'm looking for the costs to the legal/law side to this issue. If possible, an estimate of the number of hours that the city lawyers have spent on this issue would be nice to have as well. Thank you for listening to my request.1/15/20192/7/2019Granted
1817VielmettiHi, I'd like to get copies of the following documents referenced in tonight's Planning Commission agenda. These are each of the "Transportation - Airport" plan project IDs, referenced on page 6 of 9 of the "Composite CIP Hearing 2020-2025" document.
I'm pretty sure there's a one-page summary for each of these, with a budget and a map. I don't need the whole file on each of these, just that summary.

1707AskinsThis is a request under Michigan's FOIA for time records of any individuals who work in the city attorney's office showing time logged for work on the ordinance enacted by the city council in July of 2018 about the use of the city seal. This is a request for all the individual records that are currently logged in the time keeping system on the topic of the city seal ordinance, not for a summary of hours, although the response to this request should facilitate the computation of such a summary by the requestor. A simple summary of total hours spent would not allow insight into when the work began, and how much work has been required to deal with the aftermath of the legal challenges that have been made. That is why the request is for the individual records in the system. Thank you.11/9/201812/5/2018Granted
