Overview

Northside Park is a 5.2 acre park located on the corner of Pontiac Trail and Taylor Street. View the Ann Arbor Parks and Nature Areas map for location context. The park contains a small tot play area, a ball diamond, a basketball court, a gaga ball play area, a water fountain, restrooms, and a tennis court. The park is adjacent to A2STEAM, which contains a few larger play areas. The park is the home of the CAN Northside Community Center. This center serves as Community Action Network’s administrative building and is also used as a community center.

Park Notices

Unless otherwise posted per City Council resolution, when a park is closed, no person shall remain in or enter it other than to quietly sit or walk.

There is street parking along Taylor Street, which forms the southern edge of the park.

The park is accessible on foot and bicycle. There are sidewalks along Pontiac Trail and Taylor Street, which form the west and south edges of the park. There are no paved paths or trails within the park.

History

Ann Arbor's city parks sit on the ancestral and traditional homelands of several indigenous Native peoples. Read a land acknowledgement from the city and learn more about the early history of the land here.

The land that became Northside Park was originally part of the Northside School site. This land was designated for public park use in 1939. The shelter was constructed in 1960, and the tennis and basketball courts were added in 1982.

Recent Developments

Northside Elementary school, which borders the park on the east, became A2STEAM in 2014, putting on emphasis on STEAM education. Read an article from the Ann Arbor Observer about it.

The Northside Community Center installed a solar power energy generation system in 2020. The community center is now designated as a "resilience hub," the first in the city. In the case of a power outage or emergency situation the food onsite will remain refrigerated and community members will be able to access electricity in the building.
