Types of Employment Opportunities

There are two types of positions available with the City: Regular and Temporary. We accept only online applications for posted positions.

Regular Positions

Positions that are considered ongoing in nature are "regular." They can be full-time or part-time, and may or may not be union-affiliated positions.

Temporary Positions

Temporary positions will be limited to 10 consecutive months or 1,560 work hours (whichever period is shorter). Temporary positions are not eligible for benefits.

Temporary positions may be renewed on an annual basis depending on the organization needs, funding and employee performance, in accordance with the City temporary worker's policy.

Police and Firefighter Positions

Applications for positions in the Police and Fire Department are only accepted when there is an announced hiring process. At that time, the openings will be listed in our Position Postings.

Internships

The City of Ann Arbor welcomes students interested in gaining experience through internship or practicum for their chosen field. When an internship is available it will be posted on the Search for Jobs page.
