Universal Access Playground Public Meeting is Thursday, March 12

Archived News Release: February 20, 2015 - The City of Ann Arbor is planning to build a universal access playground at Gallup Park. The playground is a collaborative project with the Rotary Club of Ann Arbor, which will celebrate its 100-year anniversary in 2016, and has pledged at least $250,000 toward the project.

A public meeting about the project will take place Thursday, March 12 at 4 p.m.  at the meeting room in Gallup Park, 3000 Fuller Road. The meeting will share details about the project and provide opportunities for feedback.

A universal access playground goes beyond the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act, and is designed to be usable by all people to the greatest extent possible. The city plans to seek grant funding from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. The playground will be located in the east part of Gallup Park, near picnic shelters and the youth fishing pond. It will replace the existing antiquated playground.

A first public meeting was held in February 2014 to discuss the site and the possibilities for types of playground equipment and site amenities.

Ann Arbor’s park system consists of 158 parks spanning more than 2,094 acres. Visit parks and recreation online at www.a2gov.org/parks.

Persons with disabilities are encouraged to participate in public meetings. Accommodations, including sign language interpreters, may be arranged by contacting the City Clerk's office at 734.794.6140; via email to: [email protected]; or by written request addressed and mailed or delivered to:

City Clerk's Office | 301 E. Huron St. | Ann Arbor, MI 48104

Requests need to be received at least two business days in advance of the meeting.
