Argo Cascades Set to Undergo Maintenance Work Monday, Dec. 5–Friday, Dec. 9

Portion of Adjacent Trail to Close During this Time

Archived News Release: December 2, 2016 - Routine maintenance at the Argo Cascades, located adjacent to Argo Canoe Livery and Argo Dam, will be conducted the week of Monday, Dec. 5 through Friday, Dec. 9. The City of Ann Arbor has obtained a permit from the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) to drain and work in the cascades.

The project will involve the installation of rip rap (loose stone) in an eroded area downstream near one of the drops in the Cascades.

The construction will force the trail adjacent to the Cascades to be closed off from the livery to the last drop of the Cascades. This closure does impact a portion of the Border-to-Border trail between the Argo dam and the end of the Cascades. For this time period, please find an alternate route. While the livery is closed for the season, it is expected that a small percentage of boaters would still seek to use this section of the river. Due to the closure, boats will have to portage around Argo Dam and exit the river at the Argo Canoe Livery.

The vegetation on the south bank will be removed during the work; and city staff will seed the bank in the spring.

The cascades, a series of drops and pools that connect Argo Pond to the Huron River, opened in 2012. More information about the Argo Cascades can be found at www.a2gov.org/departments/Parks-Recreation/parks-places/argo/Pages/default.aspx.
