Archived News Release: November 15, 2016 - On Nov. 10, 2016, the Ann Arbor City Council approved a resolution to set the process for filling an anticipated vacant Council seat. First Ward Councilmember Sabra Briere has indicated she will submit her written resignation to the Ann Arbor city clerk on Dec. 5, 2016; and the resolution to accept her resignation will be placed on the City Council agenda that same evening.

In the interest of maintaining the smooth operation of the City Council, the plan has been approved to fill the vacancy this resignation will create.

City Council is, therefore, requesting submission of applications from residents of the First Ward who wish to be considered for appointment to the anticipated vacant position of First Ward Councilmember. An applicant shall provide, by email, a resume and letter of interest to the Ann Arbor City Clerk at [email protected]. The due date for such submissions is 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2016.

The following timeline will then be followed to fill the vacant seat.

  • On Nov. 23, 2016, the resumes and letters of interest received from applicants, along with the questions to be asked of applicants, will be attached in Legistar (http://a2gov.legistar.com/Calendar.aspx) to the agenda of the City Council Special Session scheduled on Monday, Nov. 28, 2016, at 7 p.m., with a public reception scheduled for 6 p.m. in the first floor lobby of Larcom City Hall, 301 E. Huron St.

  • A special session of the City of Ann Arbor City Council will be held on Monday, Nov. 28, 2016, at 7 p.m. in the Council chambers, second floor of Larcom City Hall, for the purpose of holding public interviews of applicants for the anticipated vacant First Ward Council seat. The applicants will be asked the questions by the mayor at this Special Session.
