Final 2014 Concert in the Park is Aug. 3 with Kitty Donohoe

Archived News Release: July 22, 2014 - Ann Arbor Parks and Recreation will offer the final outdoor Concert in the Park this weekend, Sunday, Aug. 3, 1 p.m. in Burns Park (adjacent to the Ann Arbor Senior Center at 1320 Baldwin Ave.) Ann Arbor-based songwriter and Michigan Emmy recipient Kitty Donohoe will present her “Lighthouses and Legends” concert, focusing on the Great Lakes. She will sing and play guitar, mountain dulcimer, hammer dulcimer and concertina and will be joined by Ann Arbor ethnomusicologist, Suzanne Camino, who plays the accordion, Irish tin whistle and frame drum to add an Irish flair to this Concert in the Park performance.

A Michigan Emmy recipient and Ann Arbor-based songwriter, Donohoe draws from her Irish heritage as well as her American and Canadian roots. Her music can sound traditional or contemporary, and is often a blend of the two. Since her first recording in 1986, Donohoe has established herself as an exceptional songwriter and tunesmith, with each album drawing acclaim from the press for her vocals, writing and overall musicality.

Her humor, warmth and easy rapport with audiences, as well as her natural storytelling abilities, have made her a favorite for all kinds of family venues.

In the event of inclement weather, the performance will take place inside the Ann Arbor Senior Center. Admission is free, and donations are welcome. The series is part of the Ann Arbor Parks and Recreation Cultural Art Series, made possible by a grant from the Kiwanis Club of Ann Arbor.
