Public Invited to Vote for a Design to Adorn the Manchester Water Tank

Archived News Release: November 9, 2015 - The City of Ann Arbor will be painting the Manchester elevated tank near the corner of Washtenaw Avenue and Stadium Boulevard, and the public has an opportunity to select the winning design. Almost 600 entries were received from students and other Ann Arbor residents for the Art in the Sky contest conducted by the city in summer 2015. A panel of judges from the community then narrowed the list to five finalists. And now, the public will make the final selection. Contest criteria required for the design not to be overly complex and to be visible from a distance.

The winning artwork entry will be incorporated in the Manchester elevated tank repainting, as the tank's coating has reached the end of its service life.

Online voting, at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ArtintheSky, opens today, Nov. 9, and will remain open through Dec. 15, 2015. Respondents are asked to please select only their top choice from the five design finalists. Only one vote may be cast per device, and only one vote per person, please.

The design with the most votes will be painted on the Manchester elevated tank in spring/summer 2016. The winning entry will be announced this winter.
